Wild Words Suffolk is a community project created by Jane Spencer-Rolfe and Mai Black to promote creativity and well-being across the county of Suffolk.
Since November 2024, the bespoke Wild Words box has been travelling around Suffolk, stopping at various publicly accessible locations where people might be tempted to write something creative and put it in the box.
Names are optional, and pen names are encouraged for people under eighteen. Anyone not wanting their work to be shared on the Wild Words Suffolk Facebook page or elsewhere online can write ‘not for sharing’ on their piece of paper.

Often, there is a Wild Words meet-up to encourage local people to get involved, run either by Jane Spencer-Rolfe, Mai Black, or a local Wild Words Ambassador. If requested, Mai can also run a dedicated creative writing workshop as part of the visit. Afterwards, the box usually remains in the venue for a week or two.

When the box is collected, we read all the pieces and share a selection on the Wild Words Suffolk Facebook page.
Here’s a video of one of the special box openings after it had spent the week with pupils from Thorndon Primary School. You can find similar videos on the Wild Words Suffolk channel on YouTube.
At The Star in Wenhaston, we ran a special Wild Words Quick-Fire Poetry Stall, raised £500 for EACH charity, and received this lovely letter.
