Introducing Peter Berry

This month’s issue is dedicated to Peter Berry, writing partner and friend to Deb Bunt, who was featured last month. I was lucky enough to be invited to the launch of their new book earlier this month, and it was wonderful to celebrate the release with so many of their friends and family.

Clearly, Deb and Peter are also highly appreciated by charities and individuals dedicated to helping people live well with Dementia, many of whom came along to support them.

Q & A with Peter Berry

1. What do you like most about writing?

Here’s the thing: I am not a writer. Deb has written both of the books for me, but she has used my words. I think this is so important – my words would not be heard without someone supporting me. But I am so proud that my words are now out there for others to read. Does that make me a writer!? I like to think so.

2. What do you find most challenging?

I have had to trust Deb to portray my words. I don’t know that this is challenging, but it could have been frustrating – I mean, how did I know she was going to write what I wanted conveyed? There’s a good deal of trust involved here!

3. What writing achievement are you proudest of?

I am so proud that my words have been captured. I haven’t read either of our books (or the poetry book – I didn’t even know we had a poetry book!) but when Deb tells me that our books have made such an impact, well, that makes me so very proud. Deb has told me that both of our books have been chosen by AlzAuthors as examples of good books on the subject. Also, apparently, there is an audiobook of Slow Puncture. Who knew!

4. What advice would you give to new writers?

Find your own Deb! Have something worthwhile to say.

5. How can people find out more about you and your work?

Apparently, I have a website! www.peter-berry.com I’m told that this links to my other social media sites, but Deb keeps them all. She uses Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn (she tells me!)
